Google In Talks To Pen A Deal With Meebo

Latest news surfaced on the web indicates that Google is planning to acquire Meebo. The sources say that Meebo is worth $100 million.

Meebo is a very popular web messenger client as well as instant messaging application for smartphones. Meebo was established Seth Sternberg, Sandy Jen ( CTO) and Elaine Wherry (advisor) in 2005 and has been providing various services eversince. Using Meebo people can chat with their buddies in MSN, Yahoo, AIM, GTalk amongst others. Furthermore it filters the information and stories coming into the web according to users interest profile thereby reducing the overload of informations.

Comments from either parties have not come out as yet.

With regard to how Meebo works it has written in its site : As you browse the Web, collect the stories you find interesting using a simple bookmarklet.  As Meebo gets to know you, we will recommend things you may have missed.  Over time, Meebo will organize all of the stories you’ve shared into topics for others to find and enjoy.

It will be interesting to see how Meebo functions after the acquisition with Google and whether or not users will be sticking to it.
