How To Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Using Redsn0w

Not long after Apple released iOS 5.1.1, Dev-Team’s MuscleNerd revealed in twitter that iOS 5.1.1 is jailbroken. This means all A4 iOS devices like iPhone 3GS and 4GS, iPhone 4 and 3GS and the original iPad can now be jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 by Redsn0w 0.9.10b8b. But not so good news is that this tethered jailbreak will not yet support iPad 2, iPhone 4S or the new iPad.

Follow the instructions below to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Using Redsn0w

  1. First and foremost download the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w tool on your OS (Windows / Mac).
  2. connect your device to iTunes and backup your contents
  3. Then, upgrade the device’s firmware to iOS 5.1.1. For this you have a few options
    1. Perform the upgrade by OTA update. Use the official link below to download iOS 5.1.1 For iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad And iPod touch 3G and 4G
    2. Connect your device to PC or Mac > Run iTunes > accept and install the update.
    3. Manually  install through iTunes after downloading the iOS 5.1.1 device-specific firmware file
  4. Next, Download the iOS 5.1 (not iOS 5.1.1) IPSW file according to the device you own.

  6. Unzip the contents of Redsn0w tool and launch the exe file.
  7. Choose Extras on the Redsn0w GUI and the press the Select IPS option.
  8. You will be prompted to a screen, then point to IPSW file from Step 5 and select it.
  9. On the main home screen of Redsn0w, choose Jailbreak. Before moving ahead you have to ensure Install Cydia is selected.
  10. Now you will be putting your device into DFU Mode by following the instructions shown in the screen. That is why please be careful
  11. After DFU mode is detected, Redsn0w will complete the rest of the process on-screen automatically. You may see white lines of text scrolling down the device’s screen which is nothing but normal.
  12. After the jailbreak is done, your device will reboot and on the home screen you can see Cydia icon
