Pre-requisites

The method requires the rooted Nexus 7 tablet.

Over 60% of the battery charge must be remaining.

All important data should be backed up beforehand. Sync your contacts with GMail and transfer all files to an external SD card or some other storage if possible
Note: Due to the fact that you are going to be installing the update via the Recovery Mode, you can use a custom mod like ClockworkMod recovery – but it is not necessary. If you are using the stock Recovery Mode this installation process will work just the same.

Installation Instructions
To manually install the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update on Nexus 7, please follow these instructions carefully:

Download the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Update Package and save to your system.

Activate USB Debug Mode via Setting followed by Developer options and check the USB Debugging.

Use a USB cable to connect your system to your Nexus 7 device

Move or Copy the downloaded files to your Nexus 7.

Disconnect the USB cable and switch off the Nexus 7.

Switch on the device by holding volume down and volume up buttons to enter recovery mode. Please press the power button simultaneously.

Select the option “Install ZIP from SD card” then toggle signature verification. Turn Signature Verification OFF.

Now, select the option “Choose ZIP from SD card”.

Browse, locate, and select the file that you downloaded and transferred over in Steps 1 through to 4.

Wait for the update to finish installing and then select the option to ‘Reboot System Now’
Hurray! Your Nexus 7 will get Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 after the reboots. If you’d like to check, you can head over to the ‘About Tablet’ section of your ‘Settings’ and the Android version should be displayed there as 4.1.1.
