Samsung Files Countersuits Against Apple

Samsung Electronics showed strong respond against Apple with countersuits in South Korea, Japan and Germany, responding to lawsuit from Apple accusing Samsung for copying their smartphones and tablets from Apple products.

Samsung said that Apple did start the production of the new technology, but technologies involved were not specified. The stakes are high and there is a huge number of companies competing to become the ultimate power in smartphones, where the ligitation is just one. Few other lawsuits in the same category involve Apple against Nokia and HTC, Microsoft against Motorola, and Google against Oracle.

Samsung will be responding actively to the legal action taken against them in order to protect their intellectual property and to ensure their growing success in the mobile communications business, said the statement from Samsung.

Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung alleging Samsung violated trademarks of its iPhone and iPad. Tim Cook, chief operating officer at Apple, even said that Samsung’s mobile division had “crossed a line”. He said Apple is Samsung’s biggest customer and will continue to be so. But the companies had discussed the matter for certain time and before Apple was forced to take take the matter to the courts, Cook said.

Apple’s iPhone sales has taken off in a big way, with more than 18.65 million units already sold in the first quarter. The launch figures of Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab devices of Samsung has not been clear yet. But Samsung is certainly one of the leading franchise in the market for devices based on Google’s Android operating system. No wonder Apple is going after Samsung, its one of the biggest competion, in that respect.
