Android didn’t exist three years ago. But in this three years of its existence, it has proved itself as an outstanding platform for smartphones.
Six months ago, the statistics read about 100 millions of activation hits. Recent statistics from Google suggests the hits tolling 200 millions. This means increase by 100% in just six months period of time. So, we can predict its supremacy in the world of mobile computing.
According to the latest numbers from Gartner, worldwide smartphone sales rose 42% to 115 million units in the third quarter, with 60 million of those running Android. These numbers are strong, but were down slightly from projections.
“Android benefited from more mass-market offerings, a weaker competitive environment, and the lack of exciting new products on alternative operating systems such as Windows Phone 7 and RIM,” said Roberta Cozza, principal research analyst at Gartner, in the report.
